Early morning hours visitors to certain McDonald’s (MCD) restaurants will be able to get an early start on breakfast.
The iconic burger chain will allow diners to purchase a limited number of breakfast items after midnight along with its regular dinner menu. The chain will begin testing the mixed menu at an undisclosed number of restaurants in June, USA TODAY notes.
McDonald’s says that the menu mixing is meant to boost customer convenience. Among the breakfast foods available between midnight and 4 a.m. will be Egg McMuffins and hot cakes. Customers will be able to combine breakfast and dinner items in their orders.
While some competitors offer breakfast items all day, such a move would be problematic for McDonald’s since its restaurants don’t have enough cooking space to prepare all items on both the dinner and breakfast menus at once, a fast food industry expert notes.
Last month, reports indicated that McDonald’s is considering dropping Southern Style Biscuits, steak bagels, Caesar salads and the McSkillet Burrito from its menu.
Shares of McDonald’s were mostly flat in Thursday morning trading.
