SodaStream, KitchenAid Team Up on New Appliance

KitchenAid will adapt technology from SodaStream International (SODA), the Israeli company whose eponymous product lets consumers make their own soda. Terms of the deal were not revealed. A KitchenAid branded at-home carbonation appliance could hit retail shelves in time for the holiday sales season, the Associated Press notes.

SodaStream has been looking to increase its U.S. sales. Its home soda machines infuse a bottle of water with carbonation. Consumers can choose among several dozen flavorings to create sodas of their choice.

Earlier this month, rumors emerged that PepsiCo (PEP) might be in talks to acquire SodaStream. The soft drink giant has since squelched those reports.

Shares of Whirlpool climbed almost 1% in Monday morning trading, while SodaStream shares increased more than 1%.
