Yum Brands’ (YUM) Taco Bell will begin testing new items on its menu soon. The fast food restaurant makes many less than healthy meals and is looking to remedy that.
The new menu, dubbed the “Power Protien” menu, will be tested at 40 Taco Bells in Dayton, Ohio, starting July 25, and will offer meals that fall more in line with nutrition guidelines, reports Nation Restaurant News.
The new meals will have more than 20 grams of protein and be less than 450 calories. Coupled with the new food will also be zero calorie drinks.
Healthy concise changes aren’t the only new items Taco Bell wants to add to the menu. Last month the company tried out a new breakfast item, a taco wrapped in a waffle, and also tested a “$1 Cravings” menu.
The effort to create new and interesting menus likely comes from the success of the Doritos Locos Taco, which in turn led to Taco Bell hiring over 15,000 new workers last year.
