Amazon Plans 5 More Kids Show Pilots

A number of Emmy winners are behind the new shows


amazon box 630Amazon (AMZN) is looking to bolster its roster of original children’s shows as competition among streaming video providers heats up.

Pilots for five new kids’ series will be made by the Amazon Studios. The latest pilots follow a round of 14 original pilots that were launched earlier this year. Based on viewer feedback, six of those pilots received the go-ahead for new series, the Los Angeles Times notes.

The new batch of pilots feature both live action and animated content. Pilot titles include Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, Grid Smasher, The Jo B. & G. Raff Show, Hard-Boiled Eggheads and Wishenpoof!

The talent behind the new pilots includes Emmy winners Duane Capizzi and Josh Selig, as well as Emmy Award Nominee Dan Clark.

Amazon is looking to increase original content offered on its Amazon Prime video streaming service in order to compete with Netflix (NFLX), which has produce a number of original series of its own, including House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and a fourth season of cult-TV show Arrested Development.

Shares of Amazon rose fractionally in Wednesday morning trading.
