Chrysler confirmed Tuesday, that it will be replacing the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger with a new mid-size car.
Chrysler officials revealed that the new car will be manufactured at at factory in Sterling Heights, Mich., which is where both the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger are currently made, reports the Associated Press.
Chrysler sold 136,000 Avengers and Chrysler 200′s combined in June. While these are higher sales than what the company saw this time last year, it is competitors mid-size cars are out-selling Chrysler’s. Toyota Motors (TM)sold almost 208,000 Camrys during June, Honda Motor (HMC) sold 187,000 Accords, and Ford Motor (F)sold 161,000 Fusions, reports the Associated Press.
The move from two mid-size vehicles to one is part of Chrysler’s strategy to stop selling the same car with two different names and ad campaigns, which is similar to what the company has done with its minivans , reports USA Today.
