CDC: Mystery Stomach Bug Spreads to 8 States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that a mysterious stomach bug has spread to eight states, mainly affecting Iowa, Texas, and Nebraska.

ABC News reports[1] that the disease has sent at least 10 people to the hospital, and there have been over 250 cases so far. The bug goes by the name of Cypress 4 and some of it has been seen on raspberries and basil, but there’s still only limited information on how people are contracting it.

Watery diarrhea is the main symptom that results from this bug, but others such as cramping, bloating, fatigue and weight loss can also occur.

Doctors recommend that people who’ve had these symptoms for more than a few days should go to their doctor. The main way to treat Cypress 4 is through an antibiotic that relieves these symptoms.
