YANDEX Co Founder of Russia's 'Google' Dies at 48[1]Yandex (YNDX[2]), Russia’s largest search engine, lost co-founder Ilya Segalovich to brain cancer on Saturday[3].

Segalovich was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year, and had responded well to chemical treatment. The search engine co-founder then developed brain cancer as well, reports the Associated Press.

Segalovich was admitted to a hospital in London[4] on Wednesday, with complaints of head pains. His condition then began to quickly deteriorate.

The Associated Press reports that Yandex mistakenly announced Segalovich’s death on Thursday. The company quickly amended its mistake, and confirmed that he was on life support with no brain activity. Doctors removed Segalovich’s life support after they concluded that he couldn’t be saved.

“The only hope we had was a diagnosis error,”Arkady Volozh, Yandex director general and co-founder, told the Associated Press. “We couldn’t make a miracle. We only could offer a chance for it to happen.”

Segalovich’s body will be returned home on Wednesday. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced, reports the Associated Press.
