Curved TVs Hit U.S. Store Shelves This Week

samsungcurvedOLED 300x199 Curved TVs Hit U.S. Store Shelves This Week[1]American consumers will soon have a new option for their TV screens[2]. And they can expect to pay a lot more for it.

Two South Korean electronics giants will launch TVs with curved screens in the U.S. this week. The models, produced by LG and Samsung, will come with a manufacturer suggested price of $15,000, far above the cost of similarly-sized flat screen TVs, the Associated Press notes.

Curved screens are made possible by the use of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). The TVs feature a OLED layer that has been bent into a concave form.

The new TVs are aimed at high-end consumers looking for an immersive, cutting-edge TV experience.

Big box electronics retailer Best Buy (BBY[3]) will sell the curved TVs from LG.

TV-makers are looking for new technologies to attract customers after 3D televisions struck out with consumers[4].

Curved-screen TVs went on sale in South Korea last month[5].
