Dunkin Brands’ (DNKN) Dunkin Donuts started carrying a pretzel-bun sandwich on Monday.
The new Pretzel Roll Bakery Sandwich has Dunkin Donuts joining the ranks of Wendy’s (WEN) and Sonic (SONC), who also offer a pretzel themed product. Wendy’s has started carrying a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Sonic now has Pretzel Dogs. The push is part of the search by fast food vendors to come up with new and exciting products, but for Dunkin Donuts it means more. The new pretzel-bun sandwich represents the company’s commitment to being more than just a coffeehouse, reports Burger Business.
“The introduction of the Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad Wraps and the launch of the new chicken sandwiches both exceeded our expectations and are further examples for growing outside of the morning daypart with products that build on our bakery heritage,” Nigel Travis, Dunkin Donuts CEO, told Burger Business.
The pretzel-bun sandwich could be a good move for the restaurant. Wendy’s saw it shares jump up to the highest they’ve been in the last five years when it introduced its Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger.
