Residents of the Golden State will have a new place to buy coffee and doughnuts in two years.
By 2015, Dunkin’ Brands (DNKN) says that 44 franchise Dunkin’ Donuts locations will open throughout Southern California. The company has signed deals with three franschisees to launch the shops. One non-traditional unit could open at Route 66′s travel center as early as the end of this year, Restaurant News notes.
The company already has 250 Baskin-Robbins locations in Southern California. Earlier this year, the company’s CEO said that California “had always been part” of the Dunkin’ Donuts’ plans for growth. He indicated that it could open as many as 1,000 Dunkin Donuts’ locations in the region.
As part of its westward expansion, Dunkin’ Donuts recently opened its first location in Utah.
Dunkin’ Donuts has been moving to reposition itself as a beverage provider, rather than a doughnut shop. Beverages comprise 58% of sales last year at the company’s franchised outlets.
Shares of Dunkin’ Brands slid more than 1% in Monday morning trading.
