Help Wanted: The 10 Hardest-to-Fill Positions

Despite the fact that many Americans are struggling to get a job, there are a ton of job openings in several fields that are just waiting for the right people to come along.

CareerBuilder.com[1] reports that there is a shortage of qualified individuals in sales, engineering, accounting and other positions that give hiring managers headaches. After some research, The site learned that over a third of their hiring managers have had positions open for 12 weeks or more.

According to CareerBuilder.com’s survey, here are the 10 hardest-to-fill positions, and the number of jobs added to those positions from 2010 to 2013:

  1. Sales Representative – 584,792
  2. Machine Operator/Assembler/Production Worker – 135,653
  3. Nurse – 135,325
  4. Truck Driver – 113,517
  5. Software Developer – 103,708
  6. Engineer – 73,995
  7. Marketing Professional  – 57,045
  8. Accountant – 55,670
  9. Mechanic – 53,002
  10. IT Manager/Network Administrator – 48,70

This survey includes information from 2,000 hiring managers and job growth data of the last three years provided by Economic Modeling Specialists.
