Latest Grocery Trend: In-Store Dietitians

In a nation that’s riddled with high blood pressure, heart problems and other medical issues connected to poor nutrition, grocery stores have been hiring qualified dietitians to provide customers with healthy samples.

A Philly.com report[1] says that supermarket chains such as Giant Foods — a subsidiary of Koninklijke Ahold (AHONY[2]) — and Whole Foods Market (WFM[3]) are hiring these nutrition experts to promote a healthier diet as well as a healthier lifestyle. They station themselves somewhere in the grocery store with healthy and tasty snacks.

Giant, for one, has a promotion that allows people to buy a $20 counseling session on learning how to eat and exercise properly, and receive a $20 Giant gift card in exchange.

According to the CEO of Retail Dietitians Business Alliance, there are currently over 500 dietitians in supermarkets all around the country, and this number is expected to double by the end of next year.
