Walt Disney’s (DIS) Monster University,a prequel to Monsters, Inc., stays strong at the box office during its second weekend.
The Pixar made movie pulled in $46.2 million last weekend. This landed it at the top of the box office and beat The Heat, which released this weekend and made $40 million.
In comparison Monsters, Inc. (which released in 2001) made $45 million ($59 million when adjusted for inflation) during its second weekend.
Monsters University has earned a total of $171.0 million during a 10 day time-span.
Monsters University is part of Disney’s strategy to make fewer movies that earn more money.
“With Pixar, you do enough of them but don’t flood the market with them and you promote the brands and the merchandising, it speaks to the success,” Martin Pyykkonen, an analyst with Wedge Partners, told Bloomberg.
