Rail commuters can look forward to having marketing messages drummed into their heads if one clever marketing firm has its way.
BBDO has developed technology that allows audio messages to be transmitted — soundlessly — through glass. No one can hear the messages, unless they rest their heads against the glass, at which point vibrations sent through the glass convey the message directly into their skulls. People who don’t rest their heads against the glass hear nothing, DailyFinance notes.
The technology has already been successfully tested in Germany. However, it may not be a hit with consumers. After a video showing the technology was posted to Google‘s (GOOG) YouTube, viewers overwhelming posted negative feedback. Many described the ad-delivering system as an infringement of privacy.
Earlier this year, Nuance Communications (NUAN) unveiled a new type of ad for mobile devices that allows consumers to talk back to advertisements.
