San Francisco is home to the Transamerica Pyramid, the Golden Gate Bridge … and the nation’s biggest Converse apparel store.
The 8,200-square-foot store is located in the city’s iconic Union Square Shopping District. It becomes the fifth Converse store opened by Nike (NKE) in the U.S., Marketing Daily notes.
In addition to allowing shoppers to brows racks of Converse athletic footwear, sports equipment and clothes, the San Francisco Converse store adds a high tech touch appropriate for a city so close to Silicon Valley. The store offers shoppers the use of Apple‘s (AAPL) iPads with which they can customize Converse apparel, selecting colors and adding graphics.
The customization service costs $65.
While Nike is expanding its retail operations, it is also looking to add technology to its business. The apparel maker has recruited software developers to produce apps for its FuelBand, a $149 digital wristband that monitors and collects data about users’ activity levels.
Shares of Nike rose modestly in Tuesday morning trading.
