Pebble smartwatches, the most successful Kickstarter project of all time, is finally hitting store shelves July 7. Starting Sunday, Best Buy (BBY) customers will be able to pick up a watch for the price of $149.99.
The watch, which garnered more than 100 times its stated goal of $100,000 from nearly 69,000 backers, is advertised as being compatible with iPhone and Android. But Christina Warren at Mashable claims she’s managed to sync the watch (which shipped to Kickstarter donors of more than $99 back in January) to the Galaxy X4, the Nexus 4, and the Xperia Z as well.
Upon release, the watch will be available in “jet black,” with a “cherry red” model finding its way to Best Buy shelves in August. Customers will be able to purchase blue, grey, and orange variations of the watch directly from Pebble’s website at a later date.
So far, Pebble’s main competition is the Sony (SNE) SmartWatch, the second generation of which came out last month. However, Apple (AAPL) has fueled continuing speculation that they too will soon enter the wearable technology market by registering a trademark on the name “iWatch.” Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), and Samsung are all also purportedly considering watch designs of their own, according to Hot Hardware.
