Report: How Much the Average July 4 Cookout Will Cost

The average cost for a cookout is $57.20 for 10 people

The Fourth of July is just a day away and the American Farm Bureau Federation launched a price survey to find out how much the average cookout will cost Americans this year.

An average summer cookout is $57.20 for 10 people, or $5.72 a person.

“Five dollars a person for a special event cookout is affordable for most people,” John Anderson, chief deputy economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation, told The Huffington Post. “We certainly know that there are people who struggle with affording food and other necessities, but in general, we’re blessed with very affordable food in this country.”

The survey was conducted with the help of 60 volunteer shoppers from 22 different states, and while no survey was done last year the United States Department of Agriculture estimates beef prices have gone up 5-6% since 2012.
