The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) has listed the top 10 most stolen vehicles from 2010-2012.
The HLDI list is different from the list assembled by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) in that it only takes into account for vehicles that are insured.
Here are the top five most stolen vehicles in America.
- Ford’s (F) F-250 crew 4WD
- Chevrolet’s Silverado 1500 crew
- Chevrolet’s Avalanche 1500
- General Motors’ (GM) Sierra 1500 crew
- Ford’s F-350 crew 4WD
Not everyone agrees with the data.
“Many pickup claims result from the theft of equipment from the truck bed, and that may be the case with some of the F-250 claims,” Ron Hall, a Ford spokesman, told Ozarks First. “HLDI’s data don’t distinguish theft of vehicle contents or components from theft of a whole vehicle.”
Now for the top five least stolen cars in America.
- Dodge’s Journey 4WD
- Volkswagen’s (VLKAY) Tiguan 4WD
- Audi’s A4 4-door
- Honda’s (HMC) Acura RDX
- Toyota Motor’s (TM) Matrix
The HDLI tells USA Today, that these vehicles are likely less stolen because they “spend their time in suburban garages where theft likelihood is low.”
