Twinkies’ fans are claiming that the new snack cakes are smaller than when they were last on shelves.
New Twinkies boxes list the snack cakes as having 270 calories and a weight of 77 grams for two cakes, or 135 calories and 38.5 grams for one cake. In comparison older Twinkies were 150 calories and weighed 42.5 grams per cake, reports USA Today.
Hannah Arnold, a Hostess spokeswoman, said in an email to USA Today Monday, that both the smaller size of Twinkies and its increased shelf life went into effect before the company went bankrupt.
While Twinkies haven’t actually changed since its “death”, there might be new version of the snack cake in the future. Hostess plans to create Twinkies that expand beyond spongy textures, and may even include a more health concise version of the snack cake.
Twinkies aren’t coming back to a no competition market. In the time that the snack cake wasn’t produced several other knock-offs found their way to store shelves.
