People looking to get a new Yahoo (YHOO) username will get a chance to grab one from a list of millions of inactive usernames being recycled by the Internet pioneer.
Interested Yahoo users can add their names to a wish list established by the company. Users have until early August to enter up to five new usernames they’d like to have on the wish list. The first user to claim an inactive account name will get that user name. Winners of new user names will be notified by August 14, Wired notes.
In order to prevent unauthorized access to reclaimed user account names, Yahoo is sending out password-reset emails that will only be delivered to email addresses confirmed after the account names have been transferred.
Last month, Yahoo announced that it would purge all accounts that had remained inactive for more than twelve months, opening those usernames to other users.
Shares of Yahoo fell fractionally in Tuesday morning trading.
