The trouble with the services started at around four on Sunday evening. Users of these services had trouble logging in and loading the websites for the duration of the glitch. The services were down due to a glitch at Amazon’s Virginia data center. Amazon said that the glitch was caused by a “partial failure of a networking device.” Netflix, Vine and Instagram all use servers that are part of Amazon’s cloud-based network, reports BBC News.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak stressed his concerns on cloud computing about a year ago. “I really worry about everything going to the cloud,” Wozniak told CNET . “I think it’s going to be horrendous. I think there are going to be a lot of horrible problems in the next five years.”
Wozniak may be right about the cloud if experiences like what happened on Sunday become too frequent.
