And the Big Screen’s Next Batman Will Be …

Actor and director Ben Affleck will be the next Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel that will unite Superman and Batman.

Warner Bros. (TWX[1]) made the announcement on Thursday that Affleck will succeed Christian Bale as the new caped crusader according to The Associated Press[2]. He will star alongside Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman film.

Snyder said that Ben Affleck has the experience to play a character who’s “older and wiser than Clark Kent,” but still retains the charm of a billionaire. This won’t be Ben Affleck’s first time playing a superhero as he played the title character in 2003’s Daredevil.

The Batman and Superman franchises are more popular than ever with The Dark Knight Rises making over $1 billion in the box office last year and Man of Steel raking in $650 million this summer. The new Superman film is scheduled for a July 17, 2015 release.
