Passengers who survived the crash landing of airplane at San Francisco’s international airport last month will receive compensation from Asiana Airlines.
Three passengers were killed after a Boeing (BA) 777 operated by the airline came down short of the runway and slid across the landing field before erupting in flames. The airline will pay $10,000 to each of the 288 passengers who made it off the doomed plane, the Associated Press notes.
A spokesperson for the airline said that the company has already paid undisclosed financial settlements to the three passengers that were killed in the incident.
Korean media reports say that Asiana is demanding that passengers who accept the payments agree to eight unspecified conditions. The family of at least one passenger rejected the payment in order not to jeopardize potential litigation against the airline.
Investigators have focused on pilot error as a possible cause of the disaster.
