Cal Ripken Jr. Offers $100K Reward for Arrest of Mom’s Kidnapper

Last July, Violet Ripken, the mother of former Baltimore Orioles star Cal Ripken Jr., was kidnapped at gunpoint by unidentified man and held for nearly a full day. Her abductor used her credit cards as he crossed several state lines. She was ultimately found tied up in her car. On Thursday, her son announced a $100,000 reward for information that would identify the man who kidnapped her, CNN notes.

Though more than a year has passed since the incident, police have not generated any effective leads in the investigation. They do not know if Ripken’s mother was specifically targeted, or just a randomly chosen victim.

Ripken, who played 21 seasons with the Orioles and was dubbed the “Iron Man” after playing 2,632 consecutive games, said his family wanted closure and worried that someone else could be victimized by the kidnapper.
