Stuck in traffic or facing a heavy commute with lots of other vehicles around? Here is a driving tip: Keep the window rolled up and the AC on.
A new study from Taiwan shows that keeping the air conditioning on helps you avoid pollutants in the air — which will be better on your heart.
Researchers found that for those with a 2-hour commute, the test subjects who kept the AC on showed a 32% better heart-rate variability (a measure of cardiovascular health) than those who rolled down their windows.
Study author Kai-Jen Chuang credits air conditioning filters that help prevent pollutants from coming into the car and entering the body. Chuang says the pollution can lead to certain inflammation in the body.
Over a longer period of time, this inflammation can impact the electrical signals in the heart.
