Disney (DIS) is preparing to launch a yearlong campaign to promote its upcoming Disney Infinity game.
Disney Infinity is a platformer that has players taking on the roles of Disney characters, such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Mr. Incredible and James P. Sullivan. Players will use real-world toys of Disney characters to play as those characters in the game. The system is very similar to the one already being used by Activision Blizzard (ATVI) in its Skylanders franchise. The gameplay of Infinity is similar to Sony’s (SNE) Little Big Planet games. Players can chose to go on an adventure by themselves, or they can create new buildings and mini-games in an open world environment.
Disney is planing on Infinity being a huge hit. The company has already shown off a second wave of Infinity toys that will unlock new characters in the game. The studio behind Infinity is currently the least successful division in Disney. A starter pack for Infinity cost $75, which includes the game, the character reader, three characters, three playsets, and a power disc. Infinity will be available in the United States on Aug. 18, reports the Associated Press.
