On Monday, the social media website announced that, starting September 12, it will drop the minimum age to open an account from 18 to 14. The company also announced the launch of University Pages, a service that will allow high school students to connect with the representatives and alumni of more than 200 colleges, the Wall Street Journal notes.

LinkedIn Earnings: Too Great of Expectations?

University Pages is geared toward helping students choose what university they will attend. A number of major schools, including the University of Michigan, New York University and Villanova, are participating in the program, which is expected to expand to include more than 1,000 schools.

In addition to helping students select the right school, LinkedIn says the service will assist students in constructing academic resumes, locating internships and establishing social networks before they head off to school.

Earlier this year, LinkedIn moved to tighten restrictions on prostitutes and escort services who use the social network to attract customers.

Shares of LinkedIn rose slightly in Tuesday morning trading.
