Long John Silver’s announced on Wednesday that it is replacing its current cooking oil for fried product with healthier oil.

The seafood chain is following a lot of fast food chains and eliminating cooking oil that contains trans-fat and switching to trans-fat-free oil. Fried products including French fries, hushpuppies, clams, crab cakes, catfish and all breaded seafood products will be free of trans-fat in the near future.

Long John Silver’s made this switch a few years ago in several states and cities with laws regarding levels of trans-fat, but the company is expected to be completely trans-fat-free by the end of the year. The company has also announced that it will release a new specialty, classic fish sandwich on Sept. 2.

Since parting ways with Yum! Brands (YUM[1]) in 2011, Long John Silver’s has seen its sales, market sales and net worth increase.
