Netflix Starts Rolling Out Personalized Profiles

Netflix Netflix Starts Rolling Out Personalized Profiles[1]Netflix (NFLX[2]) rolled out personal profiles[3] today.

Netflix users now have the option to create five different profiles on a single account. This new feature allows for each profile to receive video recommendations and to link up to Facebook (FB[4]). The new profiles allow each person to have their own Instant Queue, and will give suggestions based off of what friends on Facebook have been watching. Added for parents’ sanity is a feature that will send profiles to the Netflix Kids section, which is filled with content for children 12 and under, reports USA Today.

Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, says that the new feature is all about exciting subscribers.

“Long-term, people who are more engaged tell their friends more enthusiastically, and that will lead to faster growth and a bigger business overall,”Hastings told USA Today.

Around 75% to 80%[5] of what Netflix subscribers watch is recommended by Netflix, not searched for by people.

The profiles feature[6] was announced in early June.

NFLX shares are up 2% as of Thursday evening, continuing a 355% year-to-date increase.
