Packs of Abandoned Dogs Roam Detroit

The streets of Detroit are packed with stray dogs that are terrorizing humans, attacking pets and filling up animal shelters.

Bloomberg reports that up to 50,000 dogs could be roaming about in the city, causing headaches for authorities trying to maintain the peace in Detroit. There have been reports of stray dogs killing pets and attacking mail carriers within the last few months.

Many of these dogs are roaming the streets of the Motor City due to the poverty that has struck the city in recent years, causing pet owners to ditch their dogs. As Detroit’s financial ruin and population decline continues, the amount of stray dogs that occupy its streets increases.

A member of the Humane Society of the U.S. started programs in Detroit and in nine other U.S. cities that provides them with $50,000 to vaccinate, feed, spay and neuter stray dogs. She said that when she visited Detroit last October, the number of closed businesses and dogs running around make the city look post-apocalyptic.
