‘Pink Panther’ Jewel Thief Finally Caught

A suspected ‘Pink Panther’ jewel thief was arrested on Wednesday at his home in France after trying to escape through a window.

BBC reports that the man was arrested in his Montpellier house after allegedly escaping a Swiss prison earlier this year. The man’s name has been kept under wraps but he is said to be in his 40s and of Montenegrin descent.

He is allegedly one of the jewel thieves of the Pink Panther gang, a group of international criminals that stole valuable jewelry in Cannes over the last decade. It is estimated that the robbers have stolen over 250 million euros ($334 million) worth of jewelry over that span.

The media came up with the Pink Panther moniker after the police arrested one of the thieves who took a page from the original Pink Panther comedies by hiding a diamond ring in a jar of ice cream.

It is believed that this man could be Milan Popovic, a Pink Panther thief who escaped from a Swiss prison just under a month ago.
