The ideal life expectancy for most Americans is around 90 years old — and not too many people would want to live to 120 despite advances in medical science.
That’s according to a new poll by the Pew Research Institute, which looked at Americans’ attitudes on aging.
Most said the best age to die would be between 79 and 100 years of age. At the same time, the majority of Americans believe other people would probably want to live longer.
From the study:
“The median ideal life span is 90 years — about 11 years longer than the current average U.S. life expectancy, which is 78.7 years.”
The Associated Press spoke with longevity researcher Cynthia Kenyon of the University of California, San Francisco, who pointed out attitudes on aging may change if people realized that at 120 years old, they may feel and look a whole lot younger.
“It would be the equivalent of a 90-year-old person that you think is looking like a 45-year-old,” Kenyon told the AP.
