Would-be multi-millionaires are lining up to buy tickets for Wednesday’s Powerball lottery drawing after the jackpot surged again.
No one won the top prize in Saturday’s drawing, sending the new jackpot to $425 million, the third largest prize for Powerball and the fourth-biggest jackpot for a lottery in the U.S., Reuters notes.
The odds of matching all the numbers required to win the jackpot are one in 175 million, but that won’t discourage millions of players in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Island from buying ticket and dreaming.
If someone does win the top prize in Wednesday’s drawing, he or she can choose between 30 annual payments or a lump sum of $244.7 million.
In June, an 84-year-old Florida woman was the sole winner of a $590.5 Powerball jackpot. She later donated $2 million to a local high school to cover roof repairs.
