Pop star Katy Perry’s latest single has struck a sour note with some listeners.
After releasing Roar, the first song from her new album Prism, the singer was assailed on Twitter by listeners who consider the single too-similar to Brave, a hit song released in May by Sara Bareilles, the International Business Times notes.
Roar quickly hit the top of the charts in 20 countries. Despite musical similarities, the two songs were written by different songwriters.
Twitter users upbraided Perry coming too close Barseilles hit. One called Roar for sounding “like a really bad copy of Brave.”
Barseilles hasn’t commented on the controversy. Perry has previously expressed admiration for Barseilles, tweeting “I heart you” to her back in May.
While the songs may have some similarities, their music videos are completely different.
