McDonald’s (MCD) is planning a limited launch of its chicken wings, dubbed “Mighty Wings”, on Sept. 9.
McDonald’s plans to complete a nation-wide release of Mighty Wings by Sept. 24. The bone-in wings, breaded and seasoned with cayenne and chili pepper, will be available in packs of three, five and 10. The cheapest pack of wings will cost $2.99. Customers will be able to choose from nine different sauces to dip their wings in. McDonald’s will sell the wings through November. According to some estimates, wings are part of the fastest growing foods available at fast-food restaurants, with $8 billion worth of wings being sold in 2012, reports USA Today.
Adding wings is a big move for McDonald’s. The addition of wings might give the company enough ground to compete against chicken-based restaurants such as Yum Brands‘ (YUM) Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chick-fil-A and AFC Enterprises’ (AFCE) Popeyes.
McDonald’s tested its Mighty Wings in Atlanta and Chicago locations before deciding to release them nation wide.
