Zynga (ZNGA), the maker of Farmville and Words With Friends, filed a lawsuit against Bang With Friends, the maker of a sex app that sets up casual sex meetings, on Tuesday.
Zynga claims that the Bang With Friends sex app infringes upon the “With Friends” brand of Zynga games, including titles such as, Words With Friends, Scramble With Friends and Chess With Friends. Zynga believes that Bang With Friends chose its name with Zynga’s games in mind, and wants the hook-up service to remove the “With Friends” from its name. Zynga is also hoping to be awarded for damages against its brand, reports The Los Angeles Times.
“As a technology company, we take intellectual property seriously and will evaluate the case in detail once we receive a copy,” Colin Hodge, Bang with Friends Chief Executive and co-founder , told L.A.Times. “Regardless, we continue to be focused on making our users happy, so that they can help each other be happy.”
Bloomberg reports that the case is Zynga Inc. v. Bang With Friends Inc., 13-03517, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California - San Francisco.
