L. L. Bean has some of the most lenient return policies out there that allow customers to return items years after buying them.
Planet Money reports that the retailer accepts most returns including clothes that have faded in color over time and backpacks with broken zippers. One woman even returned an item that she bought at L. L. Bean 10 years ago and got a gift card for the item’s value.
The company’s CMO said that the store has these policies because he believes that people have the right to return an item if they feel the item didn’t meet their expectations. However, some people have taken advantage of this practice and L. L. Bean has suffered as a result.
The company continues to give its customers the right to return an item but they are hoping that people won’t take advantage of them.
