An All-Digital ‘Bookless’ Library Opens in Texas

A bookless library just opened near San Antonio, TX, offering thousands of free e-books for nearby residents.

WBUR reports that the Bexar County BiblioTech Library is an all-digital institution in Bexar County that offers 10,000 e-books for the 1.7 million residents of the area. Users need a 3M Cloud Library App that can link up to their library cards in order to read e-books on their own devices.

Instead of having to return a book after its due date, the system creates a 14-day countdown for readers to use the book they check out electronically. The digital center also has 600 e-readers, 48 computer stations and several laptops and tablets that user can use in the building.

Arizona’s Santa Rosa Branch Library tried to go all-digital back in 2002 but that concept is more feasible now than it was then with e-readers and tablets.
