Forbes has released its annual ranking of the 400 wealthiest Americans and a familiar name is at the top, again.
Microsoft (MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates retains his title as the richest man in America with a fortune estimated at $72 billion. This year marks the 20th consecutive year that the tech mogul turned international philanthropist has held the title, the Associated Press notes.
Following Gates is Berkshire Hathaway‘s (BRK.A, BRK.B) iconic investor Warren Buffett, who is worth about $58.5 billion. Coming in third is Oracle (ORCL) CEO Larry Ellison with $41 billion. Charles and David Koch tied for fourth place again, each worth an estimated $36 billion.
Outgoing New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg was ranked as the tenth richest man in the U.S. with a personal fortune of $31 billion.
The combined net worth of the super-rich on the Forbes list totals about $2 trillion. That marks a gain from just $1.7 trillion last year. The overwhelming majority of list members saw their fortunes grow over the past year, though 30 saw their wealth drop.
In July, Buffett donated $2 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, topping his previous year’s donation of $1.8 billion.
