City Seeks Lottery Winner Who Lost $6.3M Winning Ticket

The city will spend two years trying to find the ticket owner

An unlucky lottery winner in Spain lost his ticket and the government is now trying to figure out who the winner is.

The Associated Press reports that the owner of the lottery ticket in La Coruna is being searched for by the city. Those who claim they own the ticket will have to prove that they purchased it in the winning location and they will be asked other questions like what numbers they chose or whether the numbers were chosen randomly by a computer.

The ticket was for a June 30, 2012 lottery and it produced a grand prize of $6.3 million. Authorities will search up to two years for the owner before giving the money to the person who found the ticket. An 1889 Spanish law makes it mandatory for municipalities to save lost winning lottery tickets and giving the money to its rightful owner.
