Call it a sign of the times. Zombie fans can now take a college course based on their favorite cable TV show.
The University of California at Irvine has teamed with AMC Networks (AMCX) to build an eight-week program around the hit series The Walking Dead. Aspiring zombie researchers will be able to partake in the course for free online, the Associated Press notes.
Titled Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead, the course will include lectures involving physics, math, health and social science.
The Walking Dead has become a cultural phenomena and a ratings powerhouse for AMC. The series centers around the experiences of a small group of survivors in the aftermath of a worldwide zombie apocalypse. The gritty and often violent show has a propensity for killing off major characters as the group tries to evade the flesh-consuming undead and rival groups of survivors.
With public interest in zombies at an all-time high, last year Optics Planet launched its Z.E.R.O. kit, designed to help survivors of a real life zombie apocalypse navigate a world filled with ravenous, mobile corpses.
