A reporter who spent a couple of days tagging along with champion boxer Floyd Mayweather says the prizefighter keeps a staggering hoard of cash.
Tim Keown, who interviewed Mayweather for ESPN, found that the fighter always wears at least $3 million in jewelry when he goes out and has a checking account balance of $123 million. The fighter gave the reporter a glimpse of a bank receipt showing the balance during a visit to Grand Rapids, Mich., CelebrityNetWorth notes.
While that amount is too high for most people to even envision, Mayweather has considerable earning power. He earned $32 million for his bout with Robert Guerrero and will make another $41.5 million — the largest haul in boxing history — for his upcoming fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Mayweather, who travels with an large entourage, always hires two private jets to transport everyone between destinations.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation only insures private bank accounts up to $250,000, meaning that Mayweather could literally lose a fortune if his bank goes belly up.
Last year, Mayweather was named the highest-paid American athlete by Sports Illustrated.
