General Mills CEO Supports Non-GMO Labeling

In light of the upcoming ingredient-labeling referendum in Washington, the CEO of General Mills (GIS) said that he would support the labeling of certain food products.

Star Tribune reports that General Mills boss Ken Powell says that he is all for labeling products that don’t have genetically engineered ingredients in them. He added that he thinks that labeling products made with genetically modified ingredients would scare some people away because they don’t realize how safe these products really are. The General Mills CEO says that they wouldn’t be selling these foods to the public if they were unsafe.

A survey done by Elway Research revealed that two out of three Washington voters are in favor of labeling all food products. Many products with corn, soybeans and sugar beets have genetically engineered ingredients and they don’t require labels that specify this.
