Basketball legend LeBron James has a new challenge and it doesn’t involve him running up and down a basketball court.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) star is developing a sitcom in partnership with cable channel Starz (STRZA). The show will explore the success of a rising NBA player from the inner city and his relationships with family and friends, the Associated Press notes.
James will serve as an executive producer on the series, but has no plans to appear in front of the cameras. He has teamed with business partner Maverick Carter to develop the series, which will be set in North Philadephia. It will be produced by Rosanne and The Cosby Show veteran Tom Werner.
The three men already run Fenway Sports Group, which handles a mix of sports and entertainment-related projects. They teamed up to launch the business in 2011.
While James’s life will provide some of the inspiration for the show, its creators say it is not autobiographical. The show is expected to have a “light-hearted” theme. No air date has been schedule yet.
Shares of Starz climbed 2% in Tuesday morning trading.
