LinkedIn sign 630 300x199 LinkedIn Taps Google Grad to Helm Ad Division[1]As part of a bid to increase its ad sales, professional social networking website LinkedIn (LNKD[2]) has hired a new advertising head[3].

Penry Price will become LinkedIn’s vice president of worldwide sales in its marketing group in the coming months. A former ad executive at Internet search giant Google (GOOG[4]), Price currently heads online advertising firm Dstillery, USA TODAY notes.

Price’s hiring follows the recent addition of another former Google executive, David Thacker, LinkedIn’s new vice president of products.

The move comes as LinkedIn looks to attract new viewers by adding more business news content. The company has run trials of sponsored ads aimed at its users.

Last month, LinkedIn dropped the minimum age to open an account on its website from 18 to 14[5] as part of an effort to allow high school students to use the site to connect with representatives and alumni of more than 200 colleges and universities.

Shares of LinkedIn slid about 1% in Friday morning trading.
