McDonald’s (MCD) is in the process of testing a new smartphone app that allows customers to pre-order their McyD’s before they pick it up at the drive-through or at the fast-food counter.
The testing phase of the order by smartphone app is in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas.
It’s not alone in seeking to ignite growth at a time when many Americans are eating out less. Burger King Worldwide Inc. (BKW) offers a delivery service with a $10 minimum order in some U.S. cities, while Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (CMG) has a mobile ordering app.
McDonald’s, which gets about one-third of revenue from domestic locations, is working to draw cash-strapped Americans with new products including steak breakfast biscuits, chicken wings and Quarter Pounders with different toppings and sauces.
Already, the company offers an app to locate restaurants and check out nutritional info. The chain also began offering Wi-Fi to encourage customers to remain in the stores longer after their meals.
