new 100 bill 630[1]Currency collectors are eagerly awaiting the release of new U.S. currency next month and will likely pay a lot more than face value for some notes[2].

When the U.S. Federal Reserve releases the redesigned $100 notes on October 8, the notes will feature the usual eight-digit serial numbers. Bills that features serial numbers with unique or interesting number sequences are of special interest to collectors, USA TODAY notes.

So-called “fancy” serial numbers — including repeated numbers, interesting sequences of numbers, low serial numbers, or numbers that reflect important dates — draw big prices on the collector market.

That means that some new $100 bills could be worth $1,000 or more.

For example, new $100 bills that carry the 00000001 serial number (there can be more than one since several Federal Reserve banks issue the notes) could potentially bring as much as $15,000 from collectors.

Last month, the government had to destroy 30 million new $100 bills[3] after a printing error was found.
