General Motors‘ (GM) Chevrolet Silverado has raised eyebrows after receiving accolades from an unexpected source.
Consumer Reports has named the updated 2014 Silverado 1500 its top choice in pickup trucks, besting Fiat‘s (FIATY) Chrysler Ram 1500 and Ford‘s (F) F-150. Reviews praised the Silverado’s greater payload and towing capacity, gas mileage and easier-to-enter cabin, USA TODAY noted.
The Silverado’s high scores is just the latest example of a sea change in Consumer Reports’ evaluation of American vehicles. Since the 1980’s, the consumer testing organization consistently ranked U.S. cars well behind Japanese and German vehicles in terms of quality and reliability. However, in the last several years, American autos have garnered better test results and new respect.
In July, Consumer Reports tapped the Chevy Impala as the top sedan in the U.S.
Shares of GM rose almost 2% in Monday morning trading.
