If anyone needed further proof that the Al Davis era is over at the Oakland Raiders, their new mascot provides it.
The team has introduced the Raider Rusher, a bodiless football hemet-wearing head with spikes, black gloves and a mask. The head rests on two grey pants-clad legs. The character first appear on the NFL Rush Zone, a cartoon show on the children’s cable channel Nickelodeon, ESPN notes.
A team spokesman said that Raider Rusher is meant “to enhance our youth initiatives and add to our community relations assets.”
The new mascot will appear at all Raider home games, on the teams interactive website and at children’s areas at its stadium.
Earlier this year, Amy Trask, who had served as CEO of the Oakland Raiders since 1997, left the organization.
