NYC Teen Killed by His Toy Helicopter

Roman Pirozek, a model helicopter enthusiast, was killed on Thursday[1] when a model helicopter hit him in the head.

Pirozek, 19, was executing a trick when the helicopter hit him, cutting off the top of his head. The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. at Calvert Vaux Park, which is sanctioned as a model aircraft field. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Pirozek graduated from the High School For Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture in Queens and was the vice president of a local model helicopter flying club. He worked as a cargo handler for an airline, reports The Wall Street Journal.

“He was the best person ever. He had the biggest heart,” Amy Pirozek, Roman Pirozek’s sister, told The Wall Street Journal. “I think he was just doing it because it was his day off.”

“I saw Roman this morning putting his helicopter [into] the station wagon, he seemed happy,” Victor Tommaso, Pirozek’s neighbor, told the New York Post[2].
